Striking~ 9/11 The falling man
9/11: THE FALLING MAN
September 11 2001 was a day of many incredible and shocking stories: stories of survivors, stories of heroes. But there was one story that people didn't want to face. The story of the people who began to jump from the World Trade Center just minutes after the first plane hit. Their images were caught on videotape and in photographs, but soon they were never seen again, as if they had never existed.
WATCH A VIDEO EXCERPT NOTE: Disturbing images, discretion advised
Among those pictures is one of the most unforgettable images from 9/11 - a photograph of a falling man, frozen in mid air, his body perfectly parallel with the twin towers of the World Trade Centre. (see above)
The photo ran in newspapers across the world the following day, and should have remained one of the defining images of that terrible event. Instead, it was erased from history.
CBC Newsworld's The Passionate Eye presents the North American premiere of The Falling Man, the story of the 'jumpers' of 9/11. It follows the trail of the photographer who nearly lost his life shooting the image; of the citizens who decried it, arguing that it was sensational and exploitative; of the editors who published it and then reluctantly banned it; and the journalist who finally uncovered the falling man's identity.
The Falling Man confronts this single, harrowing image and helps history to give a proper due to the jumpers of 9/11.
Produced and directed by Henry Singer.
My thoughts: I'm pretty affected, after watching this video. So i'm not gg to
comment much. I still remember that night when this 911 happened, i was watching
news on CNA. And suddenly there was a latest report on this incident. There were
live pictures of the north building of the World Trade Centre on fire. The south building
is still not hit. Just minutes later, i saw a plane coming and hitting right smack into
the south building. My hands were over my mouth. I was in total shock. The news
reporter did not say anything for a good 3 minutes or so. Its something i have
never seen before, and it was just too much to take. Even for a Singaporean sec3 student.
I had problem sleeping that day. Cause it just seem so unreal. I was watching the news
with my mum and my brother. Nobody spoke when we switched off the tv.
anyways,
back to reality and now.
I hope the wake up call is good yea =) and i know u are juggling with alot of
things now. Jia you! =DD ( read ur blog Lyon. This is refering to ur econs test.)
Oh and not forgetting Zhi Ying. haha.. Will remember ur birthday la =D
and yeap, do try and manage ur time better!! =DD It can be done!
Thanks sister! Thank you Hui Li for ur tag!! =DD
Must must jia you yea! =P See ya real soon in the next Publicity meeting!
For me i am just working hard in my studies now. Wanna get the momentum
back. =P
